Sociology Majors for 2013-2014
Our Sociology program offers a solid core of courses in research methods and theory coupled with a rich assortment of electives. Our faculty have expertise in systems in inequality, the Amish, race and ethnicity, gender, medical systems, welfare reform, and criminology. The Sociology Department offers a course taught in a juvenile prison that is open to 15 College of Wooster students and 15 prison residents each year. We also offer a 3-2 program with Case Western Reserve University that enables students to obtain a B.A. degree from Wooster and an M.A. degree in social work in five years from the Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences.
Opportunities to study beyond the campus and to experience other cultures abound. Students can select from programs all over the world. The Sociology program is designed to be flexible so that any interested and qualified student can fit a semester abroad into their academic program.
For student who wish to combine interests in sociology and urban studies, the GLCA Philadelphia Center program offers the opportunity to participate in internships with a wide variety of private and governmental organizations in the Philadelphia area.
