Teach for America
Major at Wooster: Mathematics
I learned to analyze data and think critically while a student at Wooster. When my students score low on a test or a quiz, I pore over their work, looking to find common mistakes and misconceptions. I then consider my own instruction, and look for gaps in my explanations that would have led to the mistakes my students made. I can use these conclusions to inform the planning and execution of my consecutive lessons. In the same way, I examine my students' successes to find commonalities and trends that I want to continue in the classroom. Having only taken one education course at Wooster, I did not learn the specific content of my field, but the critical thinking skills I acquired have helped me refine my instruction so that each week my students are performing more accurately than the last. After I have completed my Teach For America commitment, I am planning to teach elsewhere--perhaps in a prison.
