Founded in 1964, the acclaimed Wooster Chorus is comprised of undergraduate students representing all academic areas within The College of Wooster's liberal arts program. Under the direction of Lisa Wong, the choir has been praised for its high level of artistry, engaging performances, and beautiful singing. The Wooster Chorus presents several concerts both on and off-campus throughout the academic year, and embarks each spring on a week-long domestic tour. Membership is by audition. Recent collaborative performances have included Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 in D Minor with the Cleveland Orchestra and Cleveland Orchestra Chorus.
Wooster Chorus auditions will take place during the first week of classes from August 27 - August 30. Sign-up sheets will be located outside of Scheide 207.
Students who have not previously been enrolled in Wooster Chorus or Wooster Singers should bring an art song, folk song, or musical theater selection that best demonstrates your singing voice. An accompanist will be provided, so please bring an additional copy of the music. You will also be asked to perform a short sight-reading example in order for us to assess your musical reading abilities.
Returning members should sing measures 11 - 19 of Samuel Barber's "The Coolin." All returning members of Wooster Chorus and Wooster Singers should learn this excerpt. Only returning members of Wooster Chorus may audition in quartets; trios and duets are also acceptable, but no two people may be singing the same part. Returning members of Wooster Singers must audition individually.
Feel free to contact Lisa Wong if you have any questions regarding the audition.
