Olivia Navarro-Farr. Assistant Professor of Anthropology and Archaeology. B.A. St. Mary’s University, San Antonio, M.A., Ph.D. Southern Methodist University. Professor Navarro-Farr’s research focuses on ancient Mesoamerica. She has conducted archaeological investigations in Belize, Mexico, and currently works in Guatemala. Her interests include: the archaeology of ritual, practice theory, monumental architecture, sacred space, mortuary ritual and Guatemalan and Mexican political history. As co-director for the El Perú-Waka’ Archaeological Project, she has focused on the investigation of the site’s primary civic-ceremonial structure since 2003. In 2012, she and her team discovered the tomb of a historically significant warrior queen K’aloomte K’abel. She examines the role of ritual and social memory in the dynamics of site abandonment. She teaches Introduction to Anthropology, Introduction to Archaeology, Physical Anthropology, and Archaeological Method and Theory. She will be teaching a special topics course in the spring of 2014 on Mesoamerican Archaeology.
