Consists of twenty-four course credits

Music Theory — 9 credits

  • MUSC 10100 (Theory I)
  • MUSC 10200 (Theory II)
  • MUSC 20100 (Theory III)
  • MUSC 20200 (Theory IV)
  • MUSC 30100 (Theory V)
  • MUSC 30200 (Form and Analysis)
  • MUSC 30300 (Conducting)
  • MUSC 30400 (Counterpoint)
  • MUSC 30500 (Orchestration)

Music History — 5 credits

  • MUSC 21200, 21300, and 31100
  • One period course in Music History and Literature (typically 19900 or another 31100)
  • One additional course in Music History and Literature (21400 – 21900 or AFST 21200)

Music Technology — .500 credit

MUSC 28000 (Introduction to Music Technology)

Applied Music — 2 credits

Four semesters at one-half course credit each (MUSC 12000-14000, 22000-24000)

Composition – 1 credit

MUSC 20800/30800 (Acoustic Composition), MUSC 30800/30900 (Electronic Composition)

Group Music — 1.250 credits

Ten semesters (one-eighth course credit per semester per group) of participation in the following:

  • MUSC 15000-15700 (Small Ensemble)
  • MUSC 16000 (Wooster Singers)
  • MUSC 16100 (Wooster Chorus)
  • MUSC 16200 (Wooster Symphony Orchestra)
  • MUSC 16300 (Scot Band)
  • MUSC 16400 (Wooster Jazz Ensemble)
  • with at least two semesters of participation in Wooster Singers or Wooster Chorus and at least four semesters of participation in the major instrument or voice in the most appropriate of the following major ensembles: Band, Orchestra, Chorus, or Wooster Singers.

Independent Study (I.S.) — 3 credits

  • MUSC 40100: Junior Independent Study
  • MUSC 45100/45200: Senior Independent Study

Electives in Music — 2.250 credits*

*Special Note: Music Theory 10100 and 10200 require concurrent enrollment in a quarter-credit Class Piano course (MUSC 18100/18200) unless the student places out of this requirement. For many students, one half credit (.5) of the music electives will be in Class Piano.
