Consists of twenty-four course credits

Music Theory - 8 credits

  • 10100 (Theory I)
  • 10200 (Theory II)
  • 20100 (Theory III)
  • 20200 (Theory IV)
  • 30100 (Theory V)
  • 30200 (Form and Analysis)
  • 30300 (Conducting)
  • 30400 (Counterpoint)

Music History - 4 credits

  • MUSC 21200: Music History I
  • MUSC 21300: Music History II
  • A period course or seminar in music history/literature (Typically 19900 or 31100); Department offerings will vary each semester.
  • One additional course in Music History & Literature (21400-21900 or AFST 21200)

Group Music - 1.25 credits

Ten semesters (one-eighth course credit per semester per group) of participation in the following:

  • MUSC 15000-15700 (Small Ensemble)
  • MUSC 16000 (Wooster Singers)
  • MUSC 16100 (Wooster Chorus)
  • MUSC 16200 (Wooster Symphony Orchestra)
  • MUSC 16300 (Scot Band)
  • MUSC 16400 (Wooster Jazz Ensemble)
  • with at least two semesters of participation in Wooster Singers or Wooster Chorus and at least four semesters of participation, in the major instrument or voice, in the most appropriate of the following major ensembles: Band, Orchestra, Chorus, or Wooster Singers.

Pedagogy - .500 credit

Instrumental Pedagogy (MUSC 37100) for instrumental majors or Vocal Pedagogy (MUSC 37000) for voice majors - .500 credit

Music Technology - .500 credit

MUSC 28000 (Introduction to Music Technology)

Applied music lessons – 3 – 5 credits (MUSC 12000-14000, 22000-24000)

Music Electives - 1.75-3.75 credits

Independent Study (I.S.) — 3 credits

  • MUSC 40100: Junior Independent Study
  • MUSC 45100/45200: Senior Independent Study

*Special Note: Music Theory 10100 and 10200 require concurrent enrollment in a quarter-credit Class Piano course (MUSC 18100/18200) unless the student places out of this requirement. For many students, one half (.5) of the music electives will be in Class Piano.
