Music & the Arts

Creative sparks fly

From theatre and dance to symphonic and marching bands, a capella and improv to the visual arts, Wooster students find opportunities to participate in and enjoy the arts all over campus.

Those opportunities aren’t limited to students in a particular academic program. In theatre productions and music ensembles alike, biology and political science majors perform alongside those majoring in the arts.

Almost a third of Wooster students follow their passion for making music through three choirs, a symphony orchestra, a jazz ensemble, symphonic and marching bands, four a capella groups, and other ensembles.

The theatre department’s production of “Nocturne” was one of just four plays from across the country selected to be performed at the 2007 Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival in Washington, D.C.

Each music performance or composition major has a solo concert senior year in Gault Recital Hall, while every senior studio art major mounts a public exhibition of his or her work in Ebert Art Center. The College of Wooster Art Museum, also located in Ebert, exhibits works by regional, national and international artists, as well as Wooster faculty and students, and draws visitors from Cleveland, Akron, Columbus, and beyond.

Creativity and self-expression are more than just the province of a select few at Wooster. They’re part of the fabric of campus life.
