WOOSTER - Concierge service will greet incoming students and their families when they arrive at The College of Wooster later this month. Scores of faculty, staff, and returning students will serve as volunteers to help the newcomers "Moove" in (a play on the first letters of the school's name, which spells out COW) on the evening of Aug. 25.

Portions of Beall and Wayne Avenues will be closed from 4-9 p.m. that evening to accommodate the largest first-year class in school history (644 students). Wayne Avenue from Bever Street to Gasche Street, and Beall Avenue from Pine Street to Bloomington Avenue will be closed during that five-hour block. Alternative routes include Bever and Gasche Streets for north and southbound traffic, and Pearl and Winter Streets for east and westbound traffic.

Parents will drop off their precious cargo in front of their assigned residence hall and then proceed north to a designated parking area. The parents will then be shuttled back and reunited with their son or daughter. In the meantime, volunteers will whisk away the boxes and crates filled with clothing items, electronic devices, and other supplies to the student's new room.

"Our goal is to keep things 'mooving,'" said Christie Kracker, associate dean of students and director of residence life who brought the idea to Wooster. "This is our way of greeting new students in the most welcoming way possible. We realize that this can be a very stressful time for students and their families, so we hope that this service takes some of the anxiety out of it."

After the "Moove" has been completed, students and family members are invited to enjoy free pizza in Kittredge Hall. There will also be a Chick-fil-A tent and free ice cream.

A Nike-like swoosh emblem with cow spots has been adopted as the logo for this inaugural event to remind anyone who might think about standing still for too long to "Just 'Moove' It."
