Anti-Racism Writer and Activist to Speak at The College of Wooster Dec. 3-4

Tim Wise will deliver guest lecture and workshop on campus

WOOSTER, Ohio — Anti-racism writer and activist Tim Wise will visit The College of Wooster Dec. 3-4 for several presentations, including a lecture on Tuesday, Dec. 3, at 7:30 p.m. in McGaw Chapel (340 E. University St.). His address, titled “Beyond Diversity: Challenging Racism in an Age of Backlash,” is free and open to the public. He will also speak at a staff development luncheon for employees the following day in Freedlander Theatre.

A prominent spokesperson on the subject of racism, Wise was named one of “25 Visionaries Who are Changing Your World” by Utne Reader. He has spoken at more than 800 colleges and high schools nationwide as well as numerous community groups across the country. His emphasis is on anti-racism training for educators, but he also conducts workshops for physicians and other medical professionals on how to combat racial inequities in the health-care system. He has appeared on hundreds of radio and television programs, including ABC’s "20/20," and he is a regular contributor to discussions about race on CNN.

Wise’s visit to campus is sponsored by Wooster’s Center for Diversity and Global Engagement as well as the Africana Studies Department, the Human Resources Department, the Office of Multicultural Student Affairs, and the Office of the President. His presentations are associated with the 2013 Wooster Forum, titled “Facing RACE.”
