WOOSTER, Ohio – CNN political commentator and Democratic strategist Symone D. Sanders will deliver the keynote lecture for this year’s celebration of Black History Month at The College of Wooster, on Monday, Feb. 20, at 7:30 p.m. in McGaw Chapel, 340 E. University St., on the college’s campus. The event is free and open to the public.

Sanders will offer her insights on the current political landscape, and describe how she believes young black people will “lead the charge for change in 2017 and beyond.”

Sanders first gained national attention in 2015 when she was named national press secretary for Sen. Bernie Sanders’ presidential campaign. Just 25 years old at the time, she was the youngest person to ever hold that position for a major party presidential candidate. The Washington Post describes her as “a smart, ambitious progressive who’s been involved in politics since she was a teenager growing up in Omaha.”

Sanders is the immediate past chair of the Coalition for Juvenile Justice’s Emerging Leaders Committee. She earned a bachelor’s degree in management from Creighton University in 2013.
