Fall is Bat Season in the City of Wooster

You can prevent bats from entering residential spaces by:

  • Keeping window screens in place or the windows shut. If you need assistance with securing screens or if screens are damaged, submit a work order to facilities immediately
  • Keeping exterior doors to residence halls and houses closed at all times. If you see an exterior door propped open for any reason, close the door immediately.

If you come into contact with a bat:

  • If you see a bat in a residence hall, get to safety immediately. Once in a secure location, report the sighting to Campus Safety who will respond by trapping and/or releasing the bat. Our trained Facilities staff will do a sweep of the space.
  • If you believe you have come into contact with the bat (have been bitten or exposed to saliva), please report to Longbrake Student Wellness Center immediately. Nurses will examine you, recommend a course of action, and file any necessary reports with the Wayne County Health Department to ensure timely access to treatment and other resources.
  • If you have been bitten or exposed to saliva, please wash area immediately with soap and water and then report to Wellness.
  • Please do not leave fire doors propped open.
  • If after 4pm or on the weekend, please contact Campus Safety at 330-263-2590
