Office of Multicultural Student Affairs

Greetings!

On behalf of The College of Wooster and the Office of Multicultural Student Affairs (OMSA), I would like to welcome the Class of 2020 to our campus! I am very excited about what each new student will bring to our campus and how you will help enhance our thriving campus community. Though my position as an Assistant Dean spans across campus, my passion is working with, supporting, challenging and advocating for students of color. We understand that sometimes being a student at a predominately white campus can be difficult, yet we hope that you seek resources across the institution that will assist you in achieving the ultimate goal: walking across the stage in May 2020 and receiving your degree from The College of Wooster!

OMSA works with many departments, faculty members and student leaders to provide you with information related to various resources. Because we are housed within The Center for Diversity and Inclusion (CDI), we are able to collaborate more often with various departments such as the Office of International Student Affairs (OISA), the Office of Interfaith Campus Ministries (OICM) and the newly created Office of Sexuality and Gender Inclusion (OSGI). These offices encompass one of the core values of the college, Diversity and Inclusivity.

We also develop cultural programming that educates and challenges all students as they grow within their collegiate years. We want students to ask questions and encourage their campus community to think independently, yet recognize that they are a part of a larger community.

As the director, I welcome ideas, feedback and thoughts related to how we can serve our campus better. Our Program Coordinator, HerBrina Shepherd then creates programming and continues to the build communication with current students. We are constantly changing in order to best serve our students, staff and faculty and without hearing your voice, we are truly lost.

Please visit our various pages, Facebook, or visit us in Babcock for more information. We’d love to meet you!

Best,

Dean Shadra D. Smith
Assistant Dean of Students
