8-6-21: Arrival Instructions and Updates

Covid-19 community message graphic for college of wooster on august 6 2021

Hello and greetings from Wooster,

We are eagerly awaiting your arrival to campus and look forward to welcoming you to campus whether it’s your first or last semester here with us.  There’s so much that has changed while you were elsewhere around the world and much of it is new to all of you. So, I wanted to be sure and give you the latest news and information.

Let me begin by sharing that the first phase of the Lowry Center renovation is underway, and we are making our final preparations for you to be able to eat in the dining hall on the 3rd floor while work continues on the main and lower levels. More details can be found on the student center operations page along with a map to guide you to the new entrance and instructions for anyone needing access to the elevator to the dining hall. We will have meals in Kittredge (lunch and C-store) and in the other dining locations on campus. You’ll find the dining locations and hours here. By the way, isn’t our new website awesome? Go Scots!

Next, there are so many new faces around campus! Actually, too many to mention here, but know that there are many staff and faculty eager to help when you need assistance, advice or just someone to talk to. When you don’t know where to turn, start with your Class Dean. They will point you in the right direction.

If you (or your family) didn’t have an opportunity to tune into the event this week hosted by President Bolton on Fall planning, you can tune in here to listen live (use password: WooParents). In that session, we said you’d be hearing from us this week with further instructions for arrival.

In order to return to campus, you must have done the following:

  1. Submit your vaccination record to ScotWeb (self-service) OR received an exemption OR signed up for one of our vaccination clinics on August 19 or 24. You can sign up for those here.
  2. Sign the Community Care Agreement in the Housing Self Service portal. Go to Applications and then Community Care Agreement.  Read the Community Care Agreement and then sign the document.  After that, please confirm your mobile number, mobile carrier, personal email, and Emergency Contact Information.  Once that is complete, you will receive a confirmation email with the Community Care Agreement attached as a PDF.
  3. Sign up for a check-in window by going to the home screen in your housing portal. This will only be available after you have submitted the Community Care Agreement. This time is an estimate of the time you will be arriving to campus for the day that you are approved.  We understand that travel will not always go exactly as planned.  Changes to check in information can be made until August 18th through the Housing Self Service portal.  Students approved to arrive early to campus due to a club, organization, or essential work commitment will need to complete the Community Care Agreement and information, but do not need to sign up for a time.
  4. Receive a negative COVID test result. This will happen in one of three ways.
    1. If you are coming early to campus you will be tested within the first days you are on campus.
    2. If you are travelling internationally to campus, submit the test you submitted to board your international flight to testscots@wooster.edu.
    3. If you are travelling to campus from home within the US, and arriving after August 20th, we will send a test to your home address.  You’ll take this test at home and drop it in UPS so we get the result before you arrive.  If you will not be at your home address in the week before coming to campus, please let us know at testscots@wooster.edu so we can make arrangements for you.

Testing plans after arrival will be announced based on current conditions, vaccination status and current CDC guidance. Although we hope we will not use them, isolation and quarantine spaces will be in local hotels if the need arises. Classes will not be offered remotely, so students who would need to isolate or quarantine will arrange for missed work with their faculty and the Dean for Curriculum and Academic Engagement, Jen Bowen (jbowen@wooster.edu).

We are committed to being wholly in person, so we will have a campus mask mandate for all individuals regardless of vaccination status, while indoors (unless in a private office or residence) through September 8, 2021. After that date, determinations about masking will be made using the current CDC guidance at the time.

See you soon and Go Scots!!
