10-5-21: Campus Community Message

Dear Students, Families and Colleagues,

Campus COVID update:

It’s hard to believe fall break is next week! Today’s campus health update is a short one.  Our testing results last week were very good, with no positive tests for students and two among our employees. As of last evening, there are no students in isolation or quarantine. (See the dashboard) My tremendous thanks to all for your hard work to support a safe campus community!

If you are traveling for fall break:

As students prepare for fall break, I’d like to remind everyone to be thoughtful and cautious. While we seem to have passed the peak of the Delta variant surge over the past few days in Ohio and in many parts of the US, case rates remain very high across most communities. Please take your masks with you when you travel, and use them in indoor public spaces to protect yourself and others.

Booster shots and vaccines for children under 12:

We’ve gotten several questions about booster shot availability and when vaccines may be available for children under 12. The Pfizer vaccine boosters were approved a couple of weeks ago for those whose second shot of  Pfizer vaccine was at least 6 months ago who meet the following criteria: persons over 65, those with health vulnerabilities, and those whose work puts them in contact with many people (including teachers and others who work in high-density congregate settings). Locally, Pfizer booster shots are amply available with no waiting and no cost, including at Walmart and other locations. The data are clear on the benefits of booster shots, and we encourage those who are eligible to get one. The FDA is anticipated to review Moderna and Johnson&Johnson booster shot data on October 15th, and to review data about vaccines for children ages 5-11 on October 26th.

We’ll be in touch next week about testing plans after break. In the meantime, wishing everyone a great week.

With best wishes,

Sarah Bolton
President
