The majority of international students receive the Wooster International Scholarship. However, there are a few specific scholarship opportunities available that some international students may qualify for. See below for more information.

Model UN Leadership Award

The Model UN Leadership Award, valued at $2,000 annually, recognizes first-year applicants who demonstrate leadership and growth through their high school Model UN experiences and intend to continue to do so at Wooster. Award recipients will be expected to join Wooster’s Model UN, which is consistently recognized for its award-winning success at two national conferences. The application and requirements are available here. Applicants must complete the Application for Admission and the Model UN Leadership Award Application by their preferred deadline: November 15, 2022, for notification by December 31; or January 15, 2023, for notification by April 1.

Performing Arts Scholarship

The competitive Performing Arts Scholarships, ranging from $2,000 to $8,000 per year, are made to students on the basis of accomplishment and promise in music, theatre/dance, or Scottish Arts. Students receiving the award need not major in the area, but are required to participate in various programs throughout their time at Wooster. Applicants must complete all necessary materials by November 1, 2022 (Music and Scottish Arts) or November 15, 2022 (Theatre & Dance). A second round of applications will be accepted until January 15, 2023.

Guo Bingwen Wooster-China Friendship Grant

The Guo Bingwen Wooster-China Friendship Grant, which offers recipients a $10,000 scholarship ($2,500/year for four years), is available to Chinese students who start at The College of Wooster as freshmen.

The Guo Grant is named after Chinese alumnus Dr. Bingwen Guo (Ping-Wen Kuo), who graduated from Wooster in 1911. Dr. Guo went on to earn his Ph.D. from Columbia University and became founder and president of National Southeast University in Nanjing in 1921. Devoting his life to education and the idea of the liberal arts, Dr. Guo sought to balance a well-rounded education with a specialized one, with a focus on international learning.

Recipients of this award will uphold Dr. Guo’s passion for a liberal arts education. Like Dr. Guo, they are encouraged to participate in on-campus activities and share Chinese culture on campus. No additional application is necessary; students holding Chinese citizenship will be considered for this award on the basis of their involvement in their high school and local community.

Wooster provides a unique opportunity for international students to receive fellowships to take advantage of research and internship opportunities, both in the U.S. and abroad, and even start their own business. Most Wooster international students complete at least one internship, and many also receive funding for research projects. Wooster alumni have even started their own companies while at Wooster with Launch and Video Pitch funding!

Yes, international students may work on campus. Students on an F-1 visa may work on campus up to 20 hours per week during the academic year and up to 40 hours per week during the school breaks. Most student jobs pay U.S. $9.30/hour.

Campus employment is not automatically credited to your account. Rather, when you begin an on-campus job, you may choose to have your earnings deposited into your bank account or applied directly to your tuition for the following semester. We will discuss on-campus employment at international orientation.

Students are encouraged to interview with a Wooster representative in order to share more about their high school activities and accomplishments. Interviews are offered online via our web portal throughout the year, in-person in select cities, and during our International Interview Day (information coming soon). Interviews are not required for scholarship consideration. They simply provide a great way for you to connect one-on-one with an admissions staff member who can learn more about you and answer all your questions.

We do not offer a waiver for the CSS profile because we offer our financial aid forms for free! You can find those forms on our website here.

We are committed to trying to make the Wooster application as accessible as possible. All international applicants are required to submit one standardized test, but it can be any of the following options.

Automatically fulfilling this requirement are:
*SAT, ACT, TOEFL, Duolingo, PTE Academic, or IELTS scores

The following will waive the testing requirement:
*GED scores. For Korean students, CSAT scores.
*IB predicted grades
*WAEC exams
*Board exams for India, Pakistan, or Bangladesh
*Completion of 3 AP courses
*At least 3 A level courses
To use a waiver, you must simply email global@wooster.edu after you have submitted your application to request the test score waiver for your application.

Additionally, we accept all superscoring and self-reporting of standardized tests!

Wooster’s minimum TOEFL is 80 and the minimum Duolingo is 100. There are no minimum SAT or ACT requirements.

You can use the Common Application or the Coalition application, which are both free.
