Lori Makin-Byrd is the Title IX Coordinator and Director of Sexual Violence Prevention and Response at The College of Wooster. She joined Wooster in March 2017.

Reporting directly to the president, Makin-Byrd oversees the management and resolution of all complaints of discrimination and harassment related to sex, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression and works closely with the college’s investigators and adjudicators for Title IX cases to ensure that all processes meet best practices. She also leads the College’s collaborative efforts to ensure that policies and procedures are equitable and that all students, staff, and faculty experience a fair and respectful College of Wooster. 

At Wooster, Makin-Byrd has standardized training for all students, faculty, and staff related to Title IX, created a new policy and process for resolving complaints for all constituents, and has instituted a weekly Sexual Assault Response Team meeting to ensure timely communication between Title IX, Student Rights and Responsibilities, Security and Protective Services, and Longbrake Wellness to better address student needs. 

Previously, Makin-Byrd served as Assistant Dean for Community Standards and Title IX Coordinator at Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Fla., overseeing Title IX compliance, training, support, and investigation. Prior to assuming that position, she was Director of Outreach Services and Health Promotion at Eckerd, leading student support initiatives and chairing the Behavioral Intervention Team, and taught there for three years as a Visiting Assistant Professor of Psychology.

She earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology from Oberlin College and a master’s in clinical psychology from the University of Arkansas.
