The Black Women's Organization was founded in 1977, then revived and re-chartered in 2015. The mission of the Black Women's Organization is to maximize the self-respect of Black women on campus by giving them practical tools and step-by- step action plans that shift their relationship with their body to the effect that they begin re-imagining their size, gender, race and age as assets that do not need fixing yet advantages they can capitalize and build their careers around. BWO also serves to form these women into effective and active leaders on and off campus by teaching them to specialize in coordinating campus-wide events that bring cultural awareness about the lived experiences of all women living on campus (students, faculty and staff).
