Policy - Hosting External Visitors on Campus

Policy for Hosting Events for Outside Groups at the College of Wooster*

July 1st – December 31st, 2020

The College of Wooster is committed to the health and safety of its students, faculty and staff, and to the larger City of Wooster community.

We are also committed to meet our mission, serve our students and live our values in during the extraordinary disruptions presented by COVID-19.

Based on the best available current public health guidance, the College of Wooster will have the following policies for College-hosted events for the period July 1st – December 31st , 2020. If the public health situation changes during this time, this policy may be revised.

  • We intend to minimize the number of events for outside groups hosted on campus this fall semester, in order to reduce the risk of exposure to the COVID-19 illness for our community.
  • Events will be hosted only if they are essential for the College; and will require the approval of the VP or senior officer.
  • Events hosted on campus must meet current state, federal and campus requirements for maximum group size, social distancing, wearing of masks, and other safety precautions.
  • No events may be hosted that include overnight stays in the residence halls.
  • No events may be hosted that require catering.
  • Invited speakers and presenters to classes may be permitted with special approval of the senior officer or VP. However, the preferred mode of presentation and discussion with classes and other audiences is remote.
  • There will be no hosting of visitors on campus between August 10th and September 2nd. (Two weeks from the start of classes.)
  • We will not hold large public events on campus this fall. In – person attendance at performances, if any, will be limited to socially-distanced members of the campus community (with ID), in groups of fewer than 50. Every effort will be made to capture and/or live-stream concerts and lectures for the benefit of a larger audience on campus and beyond it.
  • Contractors coming to campus must have the approval of the VPFA and must agree to uphold masking, social distancing and other campus rules.

Decisions about private, individual visits to campus (for example family and friends of students) will be made closer to the start of term. However, in no case will overnight visits in the residence halls be permitted.

Rules for hosting groups for varsity athletic competition will be determined with the NCAC conference. Rules for hosting groups for Club Sports will be determined closer to the beginning of the semester, based on best public health guidance. However, in no case will overnight stays in the residence halls be permitted.

*Events for members of the campus community (student clubs and organizations, academic discussions, etc.) will be permitted this fall, so long as they meet all safety and social distancing guidelines. Revised room capacities will be posted on 25-Live, and more detailed guidance will be shared soon.
