9-30-21: Campus Community Message

graphic that says "COVID-19 Community Message"

Dear Students, Families, and Colleagues,

My tremendous thanks to all of you who were part of our Black and Gold weekend celebration.  I so appreciate all the care that went into creating opportunities to gather our community safely, and to enjoy student research, music, athletics and much more.

I’m happy to report that our campus public health situation continues to be good.  Testing done on campus last week showed three (3) student positive COVID tests and two (2) among employees last week.  We already have over 200 results in from tests done this week for students and employees, with no positives.

While these are good results, I want to emphasize the importance of continued care and attention.  Case rates in Ohio and in Wayne county continue to be high, and our focus on wearing high quality masks when in public indoor spaces is very important – both on and off campus.   We encourage everyone to wear the high-filtration masks we are providing, and to be sure to bend the metal strip over the bridge of your nose to get a good fit.  Here’s a bit more detail on that from the manufacturer of our masks. (This will also help to keep your mask from sliding down, and reduce fogging of glasses.)

I look forward to our last week of classes before the fall break, when many students will be away from campus.  We’ll be doing a round of broad-based testing after students return, to be sure we are well positioned to for a good second half of the semester.

With gratitude and best wishes,

Sarah Bolton
