Coming Home

Coming home after study abroad can be challenging, but it can also be the time when you learn the most from your cross-cultural experience. Take the time to reflect upon your study abroad experiences. How did they change you personally? Have you gained new knowledge and skills? Have your relationships with family and friends evolved?

Take advantage of opportunities offered by GEO to meet up with other returnees and reflect about your experiences abroad.

Re-Entry

Every semester, GEO will host several re-entry sessions for recent returnees. All sessions will focus on reflecting upon your time abroad, but they will have different themes. GEO is always open to suggestions, so if you would like a session on a specific topic, please let us know.

Get Involved

If you would like to stay involved with the GEO office after you return, we have several opportunities to do so:

Peer advisor

Every year GEO hires 3-5 peer advisors with varying roles. Most of the Peer advisors personally advise prospective study abroad students as they think through their options to find the best program for them. Peer Advisors also give presentations to FYS classes, students, and families.

Open positions are posted in April, and students will be hired by the end of the school year to start working at the beginning of the next school year.

Hang out with international students

Wooster has an incredibly diverse international student population, so take advantage of it when you return! You can attend all events hosted by international student organizations and keep your intercultural learning alive. Being an international student comes with its own unique challenges and befriending American students can be one of them. Use your newfound cultural empathy to make friends across cultures!
