Why study Chemical Physics?
Some of today's most important scientific questions can't be answered by chemistry or physics alone. Chemical Physics brings these disciplines together, using mathematics and experimentation to understand the structure, properties, and behavior of atoms, molecules, and materials.
At The College of Wooster, Chemical Physics is designed for students who enjoy challenging scientific problems and want a strong foundation across multiple scientific disciplines. By integrating chemistry, physics, and mathematics, you'll develop the analytical and laboratory skills needed to explore topics ranging from molecular interactions and spectroscopy to materials science and physical chemistry.
Like all Wooster students, you'll complete an Independent Study project, working one-on-one with a faculty mentor to conduct original research and deepen your expertise in an area that you are passionate about.

Students complete introductory sequences in all three disciplines and then choose to emphasize either Chemistry or Physicswhile continuing advanced study in the complementary field. This flexible structure prepares graduates for careers and graduate study that require expertise across traditional disciplinary boundaries.
Because the curriculum is intentionally interdisciplinary, students may not double major in Chemical Physics and Chemistry, Physics, or Mathematics. Students planning to pursue graduate study in chemistry or physics are encouraged to work closely with faculty advisors to select additional advanced coursework that supports their goals.
Like every Wooster student, Chemical Physics majors complete a faculty-mentored Independent Study, conducting original research that develops the critical thinking, laboratory, and scientific communication skills expected of practicing scientists.
