Office of Sponsored Research

The Office of Sponsored Research seeks to build an environment of obtaining external support for research and programs that align with the College’s mission. We are dedicated to finding and securing resources that help expand the student experience and improve our community. We seek to simplify and clarify the grant seeking and administration processes. Our intent is to ease the burden of crafting competitive applications and managing awards.

Sponsored Research Forms

176

Intent to Submit Form

This form should be submitted when a grant opportunity has been identified. The Sponsored Research office will reach out to set up a kickoff meeting for the project following receipt of this form.

58

Modification Form

This form should be submitted whenever a change needs to be made to the approved award. This could include a budget realignment, account object code changes, no cost extensions, or changes in the PI.

04

Budget Template

This is the budget information that the Business Office needs to help process your award. This information covers many of the various forms that grant organizations will ask for. Sonya Coleman can answer questions regarding this form, or any specific requirements that your funder has (ie. Cost sharing, etc.).

79

Proposal Transmittal Form

This form must be completed before a proposal can be submitted to a funding agency. Federal grants and other organizations that require an AOR to submit a grant proposal will not be filed until this form is received. This form allows all campus partners to be made aware of the funding proposal. Because it requires signatures from multiple offices, it is encouraged that all parts of the form be submitted at least three business days prior to the grant deadline.

98

Request for Opportunity Research

This form allows our office to help you find funding opportunities for your research. When this form is received, our office will complete a broad search for the grants that align with your specific research objectives. Then we will meet with you and provide a report of research options. This form does not replace the Intent to submit form, which you will still need to complete once a grant opportunity is chosen.

Funding Sources

Where can I find sources of funding for my research?

There are a number of general databases of funding sources that you can search directly, or you can arrange to receive alerts of new granting opportunities. You may also want to register for RSS feeds from www.grants.gov or National Science Foundation (NSF).

Search for Funding

If you have research project or program that you would like assistance funding, please reach out to our office to set up a meeting using the Request for Opportunity Research. We can perform a funding search for you and help you find resources to put together a successful proposal. Periodically, we will also reach out to the campus community with opportunities that align with our research mission. We are happy to meet with you if you feel that one of these opportunities matches your research goals.

If you have already found a grant or other RFP (request for proposal) opportunity, please complete our Intent to Submit form and our office will follow-up with next steps.

Proposal Development

Our office will help to put together a project timeline and work through all portions of the proposal and submission process. This will include assisting in collecting data, organizing application components, and developing a budget using our Budget Template. Please also review our Policy for Institutional Subawards at this stage, as most grants will not be eligible for subawards.

We hope to provide numerous opportunities for assistance in creating your proposal. This may include external webinars, on-campus seminars, one-on-one meetings, as well as copyediting. Once an Intent to Submit form is completed, our office will set up weekly meetings with you to answer questions and plan section deadlines working toward the submission deadline.

Proposal Submission

To ensure that all relevant parties on campus are aware of your proposal, you must submit a Proposal Transmittal Form. This form must be signed by several campus partners prior to submission, so it is encouraged to start this process no less than two weeks before the grant deadline.

With final approval and review, we will help to compile and submit applications. We will work with those who are granted an award to steward through the process. For those who are not successful, we will work through reviewer comments to help with resubmission or look at other funding sources.

Award Management

Along with our Senior Grants Accountant, our office will assist with award paperwork and management. This includes being a point of contact for questions, extension requests, and updates.

Grant Reporting

Whether a grant is a few months or multi-year, we will help with all reporting requirements and submissions. We assist with deadline reminders and budget breakdowns to help summarize outcomes.
