If you're passionate about music and want to share that passion through teaching, Wooster's Bachelor of Music Education prepares you to become a licensed music educator with the knowledge, confidence, and practical experience to lead students of all ages.

As part of Wooster's vibrant music community, you'll study alongside students pursuing a variety of music degrees while participating in ensembles, private lessons, performances, and other musical opportunities that enrich campus life.

Accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM) and the Ohio Department of Education, the program leads to Ohio's Multi-Age License in Music. Guided by faculty with a combined 45 years of public school teaching experience, students begin working in school classrooms early and often, gaining meaningful teaching experience from their very first music education course.

The Bachelor of Music Education combines coursework in music, pedagogy, and classroom teaching with early field experiences in public schools.

Students also enrich their education through opportunities that are available across the Department of Music, including:

Private lessons in voice, instrument, or composition
Large ensembles, chamber music, and jazz ensembles
Coursework in music theory, musicology, and recording and production
Performance opportunities throughout the academic year

These experiences complement the Music Education curriculum while allowing students to continue growing as performers, musicians, and educators.

Students interested in the Music Education major complete an entrance audition before declaring the major. The audition, held near the end of the second semester, evaluates performance across multiple musical styles and historical periods. Students who do not pass on their first attempt may audition again at the beginning of the following semester.
