John Pojman to Present Physics Lecture March 29

WOOSTER, Ohio – John Pojman, professor of chemistry at Louisiana State University, will present “Order Out of Chaos: How Molecules Can Organize Themselves,” on Friday, March 29, at The College of Wooster. The lecture, part of the regional meeting of the American Physical Society, begins at 7:30 p.m. in Kittredge Dining Hall (535 E. Wayne Ave.). Admission is free and open to the public.
In this lecture, Pojman will explore the history of vitalism, objections to self-organization in non-biological systems, and the amazing behavior of many simple chemical systems. Demonstrations of oscillating reactions and traveling fronts will be presented.
Pojman specializes in the field of nonlinear dynamical systems. His research interests include frontal polymerization, nonlinear phenomena in polymeric systems, and polymeric materials from sugar cane by-products, among others. He was named “Chemist of the Year” in 2006 by the Mississippi section of the American Chemical Society. He received a bachelor’s degree from Georgetown University and Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin.
