Summary:
The Director of Strength and Conditioning / Manager of Fitness and Strength Centers oversees the College’s two weight room facilities and is responsible for designing and conducting strength and conditioning programs for Wooster’s 23 varsity sports. This position also supports the facility and event operations team with oversight and management of game / event administration throughout the year. Additional responsibilities may be assigned in areas such as committee work and administration. This is a twelve (12) month position with benefits that includes morning, evening, and weekend responsibilities.
Essential Departmental Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversees operations, programming, and usage of Williams Fitness Center and Swigart Strength Center.
- Collaborates with coaches and sports medicine staff to develop, implement, and assess strength and conditioning programs for all varsity sports and cheer.
- Develops, implements, and communicates policies and procedures.
- Establishes facility schedules, creating times for team, small group, and individual sessions as well as general use.
- Recruits, trains, supervises, and evaluates student staff and any assigned strength and conditioning staff.
- Provide general education and resources for all users of Williams Fitness Center and Swigart Strength Center.
- Directs team, small group, and individual workouts.
- Manages facility needs, including equipment requests, inventory, and maintenance in coordination with relevant staff.
- Provides organization, oversight and management, for scheduled events, including pre-event preparation, on-site administration, and post-event follow-up when requested.
- Responsible for security, oversight, and risk management of athletic department facilities during designated hours.
- Attends planning meetings as part of the facility and operations team.
- Coordinates facility set up and breakdown for seasonal use and events held in athletic venues when requested.
- Serves as an active member of the athletic department’s team, responsible for providing leadership, goals, and program implementation to our nearly 2,000 undergraduate students.
- Develops and maintains mutually supportive and collaborative working relationships with colleagues, faculty, and other campus partners to accomplish shared objectives and tasks.

Job Requirements:
Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Education and/or Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s preferred.
- Required certifications: NSCA or CSCAA (USAW optional), plus CPR, First Aid, and AED (can be completed after hire).
- Experience working in fitness centers and collegiate facility/event operations preferred.
- Valid driver’s license is required.
- Commitment to maintaining CEUs and staying updated on industry trends and research

Work Environment:
- Early morning, day, late evenings, weekends, holidays, college breaks and summers are required.
- Travel for athletic contests, convention/caucus attendance may be required.
- While performing the duties of this job, this position will be exposed to wet or humid conditions, extreme temperatures, dirt, and dust.
