Locker Room Expansion Complete in Armington Physical Education Center
WOOSTER, Ohio – A new decade has brought some fresh changes to the Armington Physical Education Center.
The College of Wooster’s eight-month long, $1.6 million locker room expansion has been completed. The College renovated and expanded locker room facilities used by intercollegiate athletes as well as other members of the campus community.
“This project represents yet another institutional commitment to improving equity and taking steps to better accommodate the needs of our programs and the general student population,” said Interim Athletic Director Kristyn King. “These spaces will better serve our programs for years to come.”
The women’s locker rooms nearly doubled in size, from 2,573 square feet to 4,694 square feet, and a new all-gender locker room space was constructed. Work began in May and the facilities opened early in January of 2020.
“This space was transformed to provide additional square footage to the women’s locker room areas to match the square footage of the men’s locker room area,” King added.
The new design brought separate home and visitor locker rooms and showers for the women’s teams and a new women’s conference room. Entering the new space one can find new lockers, flooring, and other fixtures.
“I was really impressed with all of the locker room renovations,” said sophomore Jenna Stanton, who is a team captain and SAAC representative on the women’s basketball team. “They were much needed and were done in a really timely manner. I think my favorite part is the fact that we now have a place to sit in our lockers. There’s also a lot of storage space and more space in general which is so nice.”
The locker room expansion was one of a set of high priority projects identified through strategic campus master planning in 2012 and funded by a bond issued specifically for those initiatives.
