Presidential search makes great progress

Dear College of Wooster Community,

I am delighted to report that our search for the next president of The College of Wooster is making great progress and we remain on track to name our new leader by early 2023.

During the latter part of October, we were pleased to welcome finalist candidates to Wooster to tour our campus and the town and meet confidentially with members of the search committee as well as small groups of students, faculty, and staff outside of the search committee. Some candidates even had the lucky fortune of watching the Scot Pipe Band lead the football team onto the field!

While these visits were not widely publicized due to the privacy wishes of our esteemed candidates—who hold high-ranking positions at their home institutions—the experience was an important next step for our candidates to get a feel for Wooster and served as a meaningful engagement opportunity for members of campus who participated.

Each of our final candidates has expressed alignment with Wooster’s mission, demonstrated a commitment to the liberal arts and sciences and to upholding our shared values of diversity, equity, and inclusion, and proven capable of continuing to grow Wooster’s reputation and resources. The enthusiastic interest among our candidates is a testament to the people, programs, and places that comprise our great institution.

We appreciate the participation of many members of Wooster’s community during the recent on-campus interviews, and I commend the search committee for continuing to successfully conduct their work during an incredibly busy fall semester. Following each campus visit, students, staff, and faculty participants were asked to share feedback through an online survey. This feedback is being actively reviewed by committee members as they work to shape their consideration of our final candidates.

The community’s trust and willingness to share in this effort is greatly appreciated. The entire search committee looks forward to the important deliberations ahead and is hopeful to return before winter break with news of a “save the date” regarding an announcement of Wooster’s 13th president.
