Wooster Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Combo Concert to Feature “Blues Brothers” Saxophonist
WOOSTER – The College of Wooster’s Jazz Ensemble, directed by Jeffrey Lindberg, and Jazz Combo, coached by Greg Slawson, will present a concert on Saturday, Nov. 9, at 7:30 p.m., in Freedlander Theatre (329 E. University St.). The concert will feature special guest tenor saxophone soloist Blue Lou Marini from the Original Blue Brothers Band.
Selections to be performed include “She Caught the Katy,” “Sweet Home Chicago,” “Minnie the Moocher,” and “Shotgun Blues,” all from the movie The Blues Brothers.
Marini, often referred to as an “unsung jazz hero,” was an original member of the Saturday Night Live Band and is a platinum recording artist having performed with several high-profile musicians including Aerosmith, The Rolling Stones, Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, Billy Joel, Blood, Sweat, and Tears, Frank Zappa, and Eric Clapton, in addition to the Blues Brothers Band. He attended nearby Fairless High School, where his father was the band director and composed the high school’s alma mater.
Lindberg, professor of music at Wooster, is also the director of the highly-acclaimed Chicago Jazz Orchestra, Chicago’s oldest professional jazz orchestra in continuous operation. Slawson is the jazz piano and music technology instructor at Wooster.
