Job Description:
The Mathematical and Computational Sciences Department at The College of Wooster invites applications for a tenure-track position in Computer Science at the level of Assistant Professor, beginning in August 2025. We are looking for a broadly trained candidate with a Ph.D. in Computer Science or in a closely aligned field, or relevant interdisciplinary training. Applicants in all areas of computer science will be considered. Candidates with innovative pedagogical ideas at the intersection of CS with humanities and liberal arts are particularly encouraged to apply.
The department has sixteen full-time faculty members and graduates 55-80 majors annually, many of whom pursue advanced study and/or careers in software development and computational applications. Present faculty research areas include machine learning, software engineering, software ecosystems, eye-tracking, multi-agent systems, and computational molecular biology. The College of Wooster is an independent college of the liberal arts and sciences with a commitment to excellence in undergraduate education. We enroll a racially, socioeconomically, and culturally diverse student population of approximately 2,000 undergraduate students, of which 6% identify as Latine; 9% as Black/African American; 4% as Asian; 4% as multiracial; and 61% as white. Qualifications
The successful candidate will have a demonstrated ability to teach introductory computer science, data structures, software engineering and advanced topics in the field. They will also supervise undergraduate research projects as part of the College’s Independent Study (I.S) requirement. All faculty teach courses accessible to non-majors and contribute to the First-Year Seminar Program. The teaching load is 5.5 courses per year, which includes credited mentoring for senior independent study projects.
