Nicolas Hernandez is a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication. His research as a graduate student has focused on the internal rhetoric of scientists and engineers working on low-carbon energy technologies (LCET). Hernandez energy systems fascinating, as they can be both contributors to climate change and pollution, as well as loci for sustainable development and community empowerment. As such, Hernandez’s research interests include issues of environmental justice within the energy transition milieu. He attainted Ph.D. in Communication working alongside Danielle Endres seeking to better understand the confluence of efforts towards energy democracy and environmental justice in post Maria Puerto Rico. As an educator, Hernandez strives to provide an interactive atmosphere where students can share experiences, articulate ideas, use their voices, and become informed actors in the issues that they are passionate about. He relishes the opportunity to learn from students by sharing emerging insights from my own research and hearing their perspectives and providing opportunities for them to intertwine their learning with meaningful community engagement.
