Summary:

The Assistant Director of Regional and Multicultural Engagement engages constituents (alumni & families) through regional programming and signature events.  Working with colleagues in Advancement, this individual will plan and execute creative programs that highlight strategic priorities, and work with alumni and families to create unique experiences in select markets. This position will lead initiatives designed to engage Wooster’s diverse communities in meaningful and creative ways that align with the diversity, equity, and inclusion goals of the College.

 

Essential Departmental Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plans and executes approximately 35 regional or virtual events annually with other AFE team members.
  • Maintains RSVPs using the online registration system.
  • Manages budget/expenses and processes payments for each event.
  • Answers incoming questions (external and internal), creates event briefs for internal staff, and provides updated guest lists to volunteer hosts as well as internal staff.
  • Writes copy, manages email invitations, creates events and their registration pages in the events platform.
  • Requests data for each event email/mailing from Advancement Services, as needed.
  • Collaborates with Advancement colleagues to deepen strategic connections with donors.
  • Conducts event surveys following each event and utilizes data to improve the regional events program.
  • Supervises social media student intern and oversees strategy for social media engagement on all AFE channels.
  • Recruits and manages Regional Ambassadors in key markets.
  • Plans and executes all details of I.S. Monday happy hours in 50+ cities, directly managing 50-60 alumni volunteer event hosts.
  • Assists in staffing events during  Homecoming Weekend in the fall and Reunion Weekend in early spring, while also working on various related projects.
  • Occasionally travels to nearby alumni events and programs.
  • Manages alumni led regional programs, and work with volunteers to execute Wooster events in local communities.
  • Collaborates with identity-based affinity groups like the Black Alumni Council, LGBTQ Alumni Network, and Latinx Alumni Network to strengthen their relationship with the College, coordinating communications, hosting events, and partnering with campus entities to connect leaders with current students.
  • Conducts outreach to multicultural student organizations and alumni.
  • Plans inclusive programming that increases the engagement of diverse constituents.
  • Creates partnerships across campus to promote conversation, cultural-heritage months, etc. for alumni awareness and engagement.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

Skills: 

  • Effective in connecting and engaging with a diverse population of alumni and students to foster strong relationships.
  • Skilled in communicating Alumni Office goals to alumni, leading to actions that further said goals.
  • Proficient in solving practical problems and managing concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Adept at interpreting a variety of instructions in various forms, including written, oral, diagram, and schedule.

Knowledge:

  • Skilled in resizing and optimizing images and content appropriately for web or print use.
  • Experience with live-stream production is preferred.
  • Proficient in Photoshop, Microsoft programs (Word and Excel) and video editing software required.
  • Experience with broadcast e-mail software and web metrics and analytics tools; experience with content management systems a plus.
  • Familiarity with higher education CRMs, particularly Blackbaud RENXT.

Work Environment: 

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the staff member is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, or controls; reach with hands and arms while working on the computer.
  • The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk.
  • The individual must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
