Faculty, Visiting

Job Description:

The Program in Neuroscience at The College of Wooster invites applications for an 18-month Visiting Assistant Professor of Neuroscience to begin in January 2026. We are looking for a candidate trained in neuroscience or neuroscience-related fields, with the ability to teach introductory and upper-level neuroscience courses for neuroscience majors. We are looking for a candidate who can advise students in mentored undergraduate research.

The Program in Neuroscience has 2 full-time faculty members and 3 affiliated faculty members. We graduate approximately 25 majors annually. Many students from our program pursue graduate or professional studies and/or careers in neuroscience and psychology. The integrated life science facilities house modern teaching and research spaces, including advanced instrumentation (see Lab Facilities on the Neuroscience site), classrooms that promote active teaching and learning, and community spaces for faculty, staff, and students to meet. The building also includes a student support space (The STEM Zone), part of the STEM Success Initiative, whose mission is to empower Wooster STEM faculty, staff, and students in cultivating a welcoming STEM community.

The College of Wooster is an independent college of the liberal arts and sciences with a commitment to excellence in undergraduate education. We enroll a student population of approximately 1,800 undergraduate students; more information about our culturally and socioeconomically diverse student population can be found at on our fast facts page. We are interested in hiring faculty who can contribute to the intellectual vibrancy of the community through a breadth of curricular offerings, inclusive and student-centered pedagogies, and a commitment to intercultural fluency.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. by August 2026 in neuroscience or a closely aligned field. Primary responsibilities include teaching introductory and advanced neuroscience courses including courses in the area of expertise and mentoring students in senior Independent Study (year-long mentored, undergraduate research every student completes). The teaching load is 6 courses per year (which includes credited mentoring for student I.S. projects).

Application Instructions

To apply, submit a cover letter; curriculum vitae; a statement of teaching philosophy (1-2 pages); unofficial graduate transcripts; and two letters of recommendation.  The cover letter and teaching philosophy should include information on your understanding of student-centered teaching and mentoring, as well as plans or goals for advancing these efforts as College of Wooster faculty. Review of applications will begin October 27, 2025 and continue until the position is filled. If you have questions regarding Interfolio, please contact Beth Lingenfelter, Administrative Coordinator, Program in Neuroscience, at BSnyder@wooster.edu. Questions about the position should be directed to Grit Herzmann, Chair of Search Committee at gherzmann@wooster.edu.
