College of Wooster Mourns the Passing of Marjorie Morris Carlson ’62

WOOSTER, Ohio, Oct. 25 – Marjorie Morris Carlson ’62, who served as a member of The College of Wooster’s board of trustees for 40 years, passed away on Oct. 18 at her home. She was 75.
Carlson entered Wooster in 1958 and majored in speech pathology, with Garber Drushal as her I.S. advisor. After earning a master’s degree in speech pathology from Case Western Reserve University, she worked at Highland View Hospital in the Speech Therapy Department, working with adults who had lost their language abilities due to strokes.
In 1986 Carlson was hired by The Cleveland Foundation and served for a dozen years, first as executive director of the Grantmaker’s Forum, and then as the foundation’s first full-time director of development.
Carlson joined The College of Wooster’s board of trustees in 1974, at the age of 33, and during her 40-year tenure, she served on every committee. She chaired the admissions policy committee for six years, the development committee for 16 years, and served as vice-chair of the board from 2000 to 2008.
Services will be held this Friday, Oct. 28, at 2:00 p.m., at Fairmount Presbyterian Church, 2757 Fairmount Blvd., Cleveland Heights, Ohio.
