WOOSTER, Ohio – Three new trustees, all Wooster alumni, joined the college’s board at its recently concluded October meeting.
Mary Beidler Gearen ’79 was appointed to the Board of Trustees by the Alumni Board, the advisory group representing Wooster’s Alumni Association. An award-winning actor, director, and producer, Gearen’s recent work includes acting in the film “Twin Cities” and producing the off-Broadway drama “The Crusade of Connor Stephens.” She earned a bachelor’s degree in speech from Wooster in 1979, a master’s degree in theatre history, literature and criticism from The Ohio State University, and an MFA in performance from the University of Cincinnati.
Jilliene Johnson and Meret Nahas have been elected as the board’s first GOLD (Graduates of the Last Decade) trustees, positions that were created in order to bring a broader, more contemporary perspective to the board’s work.
Johnson is the diversity, engagement and professional development director in the vice provost and dean of students office at the University of Vermont. She earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology at Wooster in 2008, and a master’s in higher education student-affairs administration at the University of Vermont.
Nahas is the associate director of development at The Loomis Chaffee School in Windsor, Conn. She earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from The College of Wooster in 2010, and began her development career as a development assistant at Wooster following graduation.
The College of Wooster is America’s premier college for mentored undergraduate research. Wooster offers an excellent, comprehensive liberal arts education, culminating in a rigorous senior project, in which each student works one-on-one with a faculty mentor to conceive, organize and complete a significant research project on a topic of the student’s own choosing. Through this distinctive program, every Wooster student develops abilities valued by employers and graduate schools alike: independent judgment, analytical ability, creativity, project-management and time-management skills, and strong written and oral communication skills. Founded in 1866, the college enrolls approximately 2,000 students.
