Andrew Womack to Present Archaeology Lecture April 25

WOOSTER, Ohio – Andrew Womack, a visiting scholar at the University of Toronto, will present “Crafting Community in Neolithic China: A Multifaceted Analysis of Ceramic Production and Use,” on Thursday, April 25, at The College of Wooster. The lecture, which is free and open to the public, begins at 7:30 p.m. in Lean Lecture Room of Wishart Hall (303 E. University St.). A reception will follow.
Womack will discuss his research involving ceramic production and use during the late Neolithic and early Bronze Age in northwestern China’s Gansu province in order to examine the various producer and consumer identities expressed though these items. Using a combination of petrographic, use-wear, and standardization analysis, Womack will identify variation in production and consumption and demonstrate that underlying social changes between the two periods may not have been as extreme as previously proposed.
