Kristyn King Named Interim Athletic Director
WOOSTER, Ohio – Kristyn King has been named interim athletic director at The College of Wooster, effective Aug. 1. She will serve during the coming academic year while the college conducts a nationwide search for a successor to Keith Beckett, who is retiring at the end of July after 16 years as Wooster’s director of athletics, physical education and recreation.
King served as director of athletics and recreation at Rockford University in Rockford, Ill., from 2001 to 2005, and again from 2011 to 2016, as well as interim director from 2008 to 2011. She was Rockford’s head softball coach from 1992 to 2016, and held several other senior management positions in the athletics department during that time, including senior women’s administrator and associate athletic director. She also served as head women’s basketball coach from 1992 to 1995. King serves on the NCAA Division III membership committee, and teaches as an adjunct faculty member in athletics and recreation.
King earned her bachelor’s degree in sports management from what was then Rockford College, where she played both basketball and softball, and was a two-time MVP in the latter sport. She also holds a bachelor’s degree in education and a master’s degree in education/athletic administration, both from Northwest Missouri State University.
“I’m delighted that Kristyn King will be taking up this important interim leadership role,” said President Sarah Bolton. “Her deep commitment to the values of Division III athletics, as well as her experience, perspective, and dedication to equity will be very valuable to the department during this transition. I look forward to welcoming her to Wooster! “
“I want to thank President Bolton for this golden opportunity to assist Wooster through this important leadership transition,” King said. “I am eager to join the Wooster family and to positively represent this tremendous institution at the campus, conference, and national levels.”
The College of Wooster is America’s premier college for mentored undergraduate research. Wooster offers an excellent, comprehensive liberal arts education, culminating in a rigorous senior project, in which each student works one-on-one with a faculty mentor to conceive, organize and complete a significant research project on a topic of the student’s own choosing. Through this distinctive program, every Wooster student develops abilities valued by employers and graduate schools alike: independent judgment, analytical ability, creativity, project-management and time-management skills, and strong written and oral communication skills. Founded in 1866, the college enrolls approximately 2,000 students.
