Wooster Introduces Model UN Leadership Scholarship

WOOSTER, Ohio – Already thriving, The College of Wooster’s Model UN program will receive an additional boost in future years with the introduction of a new scholarship – the Model UN Leadership Award. First-year applicants now have the opportunity to earn the award, valued at $2,000, by demonstrating leadership and growth through their high school Model UN experience and an intention to continue to do so at Wooster.
The scholarship is renewable each year. Award recipients are expected to fully participate in Wooster’s Model UN activities by trying out for the traveling team at least one semester of each academic year and contributing to either the research team or the traveling team.
Wooster’s Model UN student organization has a decades-long tradition of success, reaching new heights at the annual national conferences in Chicago and New York recently. Wooster was one of only five teams to win an outstanding delegation award at the 2018 American Model UN International Conference, followed by a series of individual and team honors at the 2019 National Model UN Conference, including a fifth consecutive distinguished delegation award.
“I am thrilled to hear of this new scholarship opportunity for those interested in making Model UN an integral part of their collegiate experience,” stated Kent Kille, faculty adviser for the Model UN team and professor of political science at Wooster. “Model UN is a longstanding, important opportunity for Wooster students. The development of critical thinking, leadership, negotiation, teamwork, global engagement, research, and written and oral communication skills fits so well with what we emphasize in the Wooster educational experience.”
