Vocalist Miles Simmons ’93 to Perform with the Wooster Jazz Ensemble and Wooster Jazz Combo
WOOSTER – The College of Wooster’s Jazz Ensemble, directed by Jeffrey Lindberg, and Jazz Combo, directed by Greg Slawson, will present a concert on Saturday, Feb. 8, at 8:15 p.m., in Gault Recital Hall of Scheide Music Center (525 E. University St.) at The College of Wooster. The concert will feature special guest vocalist and Wooster alumnus Miles Simmons ’93.
Selections to be performed include “Every Day I Have the Blues,” “Alright, O.K., You Win,” “Teach Me Tonight,” “Orange Colored Sky,” and “I’ve Got You Under My Skin.”
Simmons is a 12-year veteran of The U.S. Army Band “Pershing’s Own,” singing in ensembles with the rock band Downrange, The Army Chorus, and The U.S. Army Voices. He was part of performances for three former presidents Barack Obama, George W. Bush, and Bill Clinton. He has also sung back-up for several artists including John Secada, Natalie Cole, Kenny Rogers, LeAnn Womack, and opera star Renee Fleming at Super Bowl XLVIII. In addition, he has performed theatrically touring with “The Original Broadway Swing,” “Five Guys Named Moe,” “Ain’t Misbehavin,” “Smokey Joe’s Café,” and “Miss Saigon.” He currently tours with “The Company Men” internationally and will soon launch his own show “Miles Simmons Live: Feeling Good!” in Chicago with a national tour to follow.
Lindberg, professor of music at Wooster, is also the director of the highly-acclaimed Chicago Jazz Orchestra, Chicago’s oldest professional jazz orchestra in continuous operation. Slawson is the jazz piano and music technology instructor at Wooster.
