Job Description:

The College of Wooster invites applications for a tenure-track position in Global Media and Digital Studies at the rank of Assistant Professor starting August 2025, pending final administrative approval. We seek a candidate in global media and/or digital studies with particular expertise in digital media production. Candidates will have the opportunity to develop courses in their area of expertise but should also have a broad foundation preparing them to teach a variety of introductory courses for the major (such as Introduction to Global Media and Digital Studies) as well as the ability to teach production and/or production design courses (including Visualizing Information).

The research areas of faculty currently teaching in this interdisciplinary program include transnational film and media, diasporic and queer media making, social media, the digital archive, and digitization initiatives. For more information, see the GMDS website.

The College of Wooster is an independent college of the liberal arts and sciences with a commitment to excellence in undergraduate education. The successful candidate will supervise undergraduate research projects as part of the College’s Independent Study (I.S.) requirement. All faculty teach courses accessible to non-majors and contribute to the First-Year Seminar Program. The teaching load is 5.5 courses per year, which includes credited mentoring for senior independent study projects.

Qualifications

Ideal candidates will have a Ph.D. (ABD considered), a well-defined research agenda with evidence of scholarly publication and digital media production, demonstrated teaching ability at the college level, particularly in interdisciplinary and innovative pedagogies and digital and new media, and a commitment to transnational perspectives and contexts and inclusion and diversity. Preference will be given to applicants who can contribute to our area studies programs (Africana Studies, East and South Asian Studies, Latin American Studies, Middle East and North African Studies) or interdisciplinary programs such as Museum Studies, Urban Studies, Women’s Gender and Sexuality Studies, or any of the College’s Pathways.
