Overview

Climate change is one of the defining challenges of the 21st century, and solving it requires leaders who understand both climate science and human systems. The Climate Studies minor at The College of Wooster offers an integrated approach that connects science, policy, economics, and society to prepare students to address real-world climate challenges.

Climate studies is a rapidly emerging field that focuses on how human behavior influences the global climate—and how climate change affects communities, economies, and governments. Unlike traditional environmental or earth science programs, this minor bridges the natural and social sciences, a strength of Wooster’s liberal arts curriculum and emphasis on undergraduate scholarship.

Designed to complement many majors, the Climate Studies minor enhances students’ academic and career paths. Psychology students explore behavioral and mental health impacts of climate change. Political science students gain a strong foundation in climate and environmental policy. Economics students analyze climate impacts, carbon pricing, and policy outcomes. Urban studies and earth science students deepen their understanding of how climate change shapes cities, ecosystems, and communication around science.
