“Celebrating COMBEE: Harriet Tubman, the Combahee River Raid, and Black Freedom during the Civil War”

Join us for an evening of conversation with Dr. Edda Fields-Black about her Pulitzer-Prize winning book COMBEE:  Harriet Tubman, the Combahee River Raid, and Black Freedom during the Civil War. Dr. Fields-Black teaches history at Carnegie Mellon University and has written extensively about the history of African Americans, but also the African Diaspora and its connection with West Africa, including in her monograph Deep Roots: Rice Farmers in West Africa and the African Diaspora and her co-edited volume Rice: Global Networks and New Histories. These works partly served as a foundation for her latest book, COMBEE. Dr. Fields-Black’s celebrated research has taken her to South Carolina, Georgia, Sierra Leone, and Guinea.
