As an artist and educator, Daren explores the ways art shapes how we learn, work, and play with each other. His sculptural objects, instruments, and frameworks set the stage for events to unfold – often exploring the complex relationships and connections that spontaneously emerge within the production and reception of the art exhibition itself. He regularly works with musicians, dancers, scholars, and the greater community to explore the way we connect and cultivate meaning with one another through art and creative exchange. For Daren, sculpture is a medium capable of shaping materials, space, and even our understanding about the world we create together.
Daren received an MFA from Cornell University, where he was awarded the John Hartell Graduate Award from the College of Architecture, Art & Planning. He was also awarded Barstow Artist-in-Residence at Central Michigan University; the Norman Arts Council Cultural Connection Fellowship in Clermont-Ferrand, France; tactileBosch Fellowship in Cardiff, UK; artist residency at the Saltonstall Foundation in Ithaca, NY; as residency at Arts, Letters & Numbers, Averill Park, NY;. He has had solo exhibitions at the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art in Norman, OK; Mansfield University, Mansfield, PA; Margaret Thatcher Projects, NYC; and Caren Golden Fine Art, NYC. His work has been screened at Great Lakes International Film Festival, ALTFF, Alternative Film Festival, Toronto; NYC Electroacoustic Music Festival, and Padmaan Moving Image Festival at University of Tehran, Iran.
