Summary:

Provides evening access and support for the College of Wooster Libraries’ circulating collections, course reserves, interlibrary loan services, equipment, and related patron services, ensuring efficient delivery of resources and excellent customer service to students, faculty, staff, and community users.

Essential Departmental Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supervise evening and weekend Access Services operations, overseeing circulation activities, patron assistance, material processing, and student employee workflows during library operating hours.
  • Manage electronic and print course reserves, including processing requests, ensuring copyright compliance, maintaining reserve systems, and serving as the primary contact for faculty, students, and staff.
  • Administer interlibrary loan and resource-sharing services, coordinating borrowing and lending activities through OhioLINK,  SearchOhio, and other partner institutions.
  • Oversee patron account management, including overdue materials, fines, billing processes, and coordination with the Business Office.
  • Evaluate, develop, and improve departmental workflows, policies, procedures, training materials, reports, and operational best practices to enhance service effectiveness.
  • Support the safety and security of library facilities, patrons, staff, and collections by implementing and recommending operational procedures and protocols.
  • Collaborate in the recruitment, training, scheduling, supervision, and performance management of student employees supporting circulation and access services operations.
  • Serves as backup to the Head of Access Services and/or the Access Services Science Associate and assist with circulation, reserves, shelving, inventory, media collections, opening/closing procedures, and special event coverage.
  • Partners with Library departments and staff on collection services, interlibrary loan processes, library-wide projects, committees, and service initiatives.
  • Maintain flexibility to provide operational coverage during evenings, weekends, holidays, special events, staff absences, and other departmental needs while participating in professional development activities.
  • In collaboration with the Head of Access Services and the Access Services Science Associate, supervises student assistants.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Shift Information:

  • During the academic semester: Sunday through Thursday, 3:00 pm – midnight.
  • Breaks and summers, Monday through Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm.

Job Requirements:

Education and/or Experience:

Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from a college or university; and two to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Skills:

  • Good communication skills,
  • Organized and detail-oriented with the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from supervisors, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the academic community. 

Knowledge: 

  • Develop constructive and cooperative working relationships with others.
  • Ability to multi-task and balance multiple priorities.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office programs.
