Model U. N. Team Brings Home National Awards
WOOSTER, Ohio – Seven members of the College of Wooster’s Model U.N. team picked up individual awards, and the team captured Distinguished Delegation honors for the fourth year in a row at the National Model U.N. Conference, held in New York City in late March. More than 5,000 students, half from outside the United States, participate in the annual conference, which is the world’s largest intercollegiate Model U.N. event.
Senior Vrinda Trivedi, juniors Sabrina Harris and Eric Guberman, and first-year student Annie Brand all received Outstanding Delegate in Committee awards. Trivedi and Brand did their work in the Commission on the Status of Women, while Harris focused on the Human Rights Council, and Guberman on the International Organization for Migration. Sophomores Matt Mayes and Nick Shiach, and first-year K.C. Kurz received an Outstanding Position Paper in Committee award. This was the the second position paper award that Wooster’s team has won in the past six years.
As a team, Wooster won Distinguished Delegation honors for the four year in a row.
“I have been so impressed by the experiential learning engagement and performance of the team this semester,” said Jeff Lantis, professor of political science, who served as the academic advisor for the team this semester. “I was especially pleased that our five new student delegates, who were attending the conference for the first time, contributed a great deal to the team and performed very well in the competition.”
