He is currently a member of the Wheeling Symphony Orchestra, a substitute for the Akron Symphony Orchestra, and concertmaster for the Alliance Symphony Orchestra. A native of Ukraine, he studied at the Kiev School of Music and the Tchaikovsky State Conservatory of Music in Kiev. He will perform Johannes Brahms Concerto in D major for violin and orchestra, Op. 77. This three-movement piece has lyrical melodies and rich orchestration.

A new work by Jung Yoon Wie, Wooster class of 2014, will open the program. “Water Prism,” composed for the University of Michigan Symphony Orchestra, was inspired by the phenomenon in which light passes through a prism, forming a rainbow. The composition begins with short notes which become longer in length with more complex harmonies that eventually evolve into melodies creating the greatest color and brilliance.

Also on the program will be Edward Elgar’s “Enigma Variations.” This piece has 14 symphonic variations which are headed by initials or a pseudonym of a person important to Elgar during his lifetime. Originally, the people who were the subjects of the variations were known only to Elgar––thus the “Enigma” title.

Lindberg, professor of music at Wooster, is also the director of the highly acclaimed Chicago Jazz Orchestra, Chicago’s oldest professional jazz orchestra in continuous operation.

Tickets are $10 and are available at Buehler’s (Milltown and Towne Market), the Wilson Bookstore on campus, and at the door of the concert. All students are admitted free of charge, and C.O.W. faculty and staff may obtain complimentary tickets at the Wilson Bookstore.
