Work to Begin on $1.6 Million Locker Room Expansion

Scot Center

WOOSTER, Ohio – The College of Wooster is undertaking a $1.6 million project to renovate and expand locker room facilities in the Armington Physical Education Center, which are used by intercollegiate athletes as well as other members of the campus community.  The women’s locker rooms will nearly double in size, from 2,573 square feet to 4,694 square feet, and a new all-gender locker room space will also be created. Construction is tentatively scheduled to begin on May 14, 2019 and will take approximately eight months. The targeted completion date is Jan. 10, 2020.
The renovated and expanded space will create separate home and visitor locker rooms and showers for the women’s teams, as well as a new women’s conference room. There will be new lockers, flooring, and other fixtures throughout.
“I’m very excited about this expansion and renovation that will directly improve and enhance spaces dedicated to women, as well as provide an all-gender locker room,” said Keith Beckett, Wooster’s athletic director, “and greatly appreciate all those involved that have made this important project a reality.”
The locker room expansion is one of a set of high priority projects—along with the renovation of Stevenson, Armington, and Andrews residence halls, and campus ADA accessibility improvements—identified through strategic campus master planning in 2012, and funded by a bond issued specifically for those initiatives.
The College of Wooster is America’s premier college for mentored undergraduate research. By working one-on-one with a faculty adviser to conceive, organize, and complete an original research project, written work, performance or art exhibit, every Wooster student develops independent judgment, analytical ability, creativity, project-management and time-management skills, and strong written and oral communication skills. Founded in 1866, the college enrolls approximately 2,000 students.
