Affording a Wooster Education Just Got Easier for Ohio Residents
WOOSTER, Ohio – The College of Wooster has reinforced its commitment to providing a premier education to talented students no matter their socio-economic backgrounds by establishing the “Tuition Free Guarantee” for students who are eligible for the Ohio College Opportunity Grant (OCOG).
The OCOG program, administered by the Ohio Department of Education, “provides grant money to Ohio residents who demonstrate the highest levels of financial need as determined by the results of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA),” according to ohiohighered.org.
Due to the generosity of Wooster alumni—this new financial support is in addition to the already ample financial aid and scholarships provided by the College—the entire cost of tuition will now be covered with grants and scholarships.
This new policy will provide greater accessibility to those interested in acquiring a liberal arts education from a nationally-ranked private institution, as Wooster’s cost is now virtually identical to public schools for eligible students.
“Wooster has a long history of providing access to talented students from around the globe, regardless of their family’s financial circumstances. We are pleased to take this additional step to make it easier for great students from Ohio to join us. We look forward to the perspectives and ideas they will bring to our community,” said Sarah Bolton, president of Wooster.
In order to be eligible, students must submit their FAFSA by the appropriate deadline each year. The 2020-21 form will be available Oct. 1.
The College of Wooster is America’s premier college for mentored undergraduate research. Wooster offers an excellent, comprehensive liberal arts education, culminating in a rigorous senior project, in which each student works one-on-one with a faculty mentor to conceive, organize, and complete a significant research project on a topic of the student’s own choosing.
Through this distinctive program, every Wooster student develops abilities valued by employers and graduate schools alike: independent judgment, analytical ability, creativity, project-management and time-management skills, and strong written and oral communication skills. Founded in 1866, the College enrolls approximately 2,000 students.
