Craven’s Expertise on LGBTQ Family’s Reproductive Losses Included in Enlightening Article
WOOSTER, Ohio – Christa Craven, dean for faculty development at The College of Wooster, was featured prominently in a Huffington Post Canada article, published Tuesday, as she offered her expertise on an important, but overlooked subject – the lack of support LGBTQ families face when experiencing reproductive loss.
The longform piece, “LGBTQ Pregnancy Loss and Miscarriage Often Means Grieving in the Gaps,” coincided with Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day on Oct. 15 and echoed many of the themes from Craven’s recently published book, “Reproductive Losses: Challenges to LGBTQ Family-Making” and companion resource website.
The range of such losses for LGBTQ individuals is “often more nuanced than is typically represented,” the writer contributed, and Craven backed it up saying, “there may not be a physical pregnancy someone lost, but rather, their dreams of having a family in a particular way.”
Craven also helped explain why people should consider the differences of an LGBTQ reproductive loss when expressing support and why “the feeling of failure … is heightened for LGBTQ+ folks.”
