If Music is a Place poster

WOOSTER – Carrie deLapp-Culver, soprano, and James Marron, guitar, will present “If Music is a Place,” on Sunday, Nov. 10, at 4:30 p.m., in Gault Recital Hall of Scheide Music Center (525 E. University St.).

The program will feature folksongs arranged for guitar and soprano from the British Isles, U.S., and Spain. The selections, transcribed by Gregg Nestor and Jaume Torrent, are among the most exquisite “borrowing” by eminent composers of the 20th century, according to deLapp-Culver, and includes Benjamin Britten, Aaron Copland, and Manuel de Falla. Marron will also perform pieces for solo guitar by Maximo Diego Pujol, which evoke the tango tradition of Argentina.

Culver, associate professor of music and director of vocal studies at Wooster, teaches voice, Opera Workshop, and interdisciplinary courses. As a recitalist and scholar, she frequently performs and researches repertoire from Spain and Latin America, along with chamber music.
