“Silent Sky” On Stage Feb. 27-29 in Freedlander Theatre

WOOSTER, Ohio — The Department of Theatre and Dance at The College of Wooster will present Lauren Gunderson’s “Silent Sky” Feb. 27-29, in Freedlander Theatre (329 E. University St.). The production, which begins at 8:15 p.m. each evening, is $9 for general admission tickets and $6 for senior citizens, faculty, and non-College of Wooster students (Wooster students and staff are admitted free, but must pick up their complimentary ticket at the box office ahead of time).
Directed by Jimmy Noriega, associate professor of theatre and Latin American studies, “Silent Sky” follows the life of Henrietta Leavitt, a female astronomer who worked at Harvard Observatory in the early 1900s. Leavitt was part of a group of women whose jobs were to work as “computers” for male scientists. Despite the fact that she was not allowed to engage in her own original research or even touch a telescope, she went on to make groundbreaking discoveries that expanded our understanding of the universe. “Silent Sky” is presented as part of the dialogue on “Women in the Sciences” at Wooster.
Students participating in the production include sophomores Annie Sheneman and Rickey Cooper, first-year students Audrey Klosterman, Linat Westreich, and Amari Royal. Senior Casey Lohman is the stage manager with sophomore Cat Moreschi and first-year Sarah Caley serving as assistant stage managers. Seth Green, senior, is the assistant director.
